At TEDxYouth@Redmond, we’re privileged to have a dedicated committee of local high school students. We’re also very lucky to have a resource of encouraging parents and mentors, who drive us to meetings, offer up their insight, and allow us to do what we love.
TEDxYouth@Redmond 2015 Team:
Karan is a Senior at Nikola Tesla STEM High School in Redmond. He enjoys pushing himself both academically and athletically. He is the captain of the Redmond High School swim team and juggles a handful of other extracurricular activities. This past June he was a competitor at the national Technology Student Association conference. He is interested in studying and working in an engineering related field beyond high school. His desire to excel permeates the work he does as President of the TEDxYouth@Redmond committee and he is looking forward to the execution of this year’s event.
Lucy Jiang is a junior at Redmond High School. As the president of Chinese Club and the secretary for Speech and Debate and Math Club, she enjoys being involved in the community and making changes. She and her friends traveled to Washington D.C. for the 2014 National History Day competition, after placing first in the state for their group performance. She is also a Level 2 Certified Skate Instructor and a summer camp counselor for Skate Journeys Skate School. In her free time, Lucy enjoys baking, cooking, and painting. This is Lucy’s third year on the committee for TEDxYouth@Redmond and she looks forward to planning another inspiring event.
Lisa Marie Dias
Lisa Marie Dias is a rising senior at Redmond High School with a strong passion for reading and writing. She loves writing short stories and poems during her free time. She has contributed to several newspapers and magazines and continues to do so today. Lisa Marie is part many clubs at her school, one of which being the Redmond Track and Field team. Along with this, she is part of the Redmond High School orchestra and performed at Carnegie Hall just this year. Two years ago, her robotics team was semi-finalists in state and traveled to Anaheim, California for the VEX World Championship 2014. She is also the club president of her school’s Green Team and enjoys spreading environmental awareness. Just a few years ago, Lisa Marie and her friends scored an Honorable Mention for Toshiba Exploravision and has been interested in science and technology ever since. At fourteen years old, she had the opportunity of interning at Microsoft since she is the co-founder of a non-profit organization called STEM-Labs that reaches out for youth and inspires them to code. Lisa Marie is extremely passionate about debate and has won several awards as a part of her school’s Speech and Debate Club. This is her sixth year being part of the committee and is so excited for planning TEDxRedmond 2016!
Aramya Trivedi is a junior at Interlake High School, in which he partakes in many clubs including DECA, Model United Nations, and Knowledge Bowl. In DECA, he is a leader in his school’s officer team and has traveled to attend its international competition multiple times. With a passion for history, writing, and politics, he also writes for a blog called The Last Estate. In his free time, Aramya likes to listen to music, read, watch movies, and spend time outside with his friends. This is his first year with TEDxRedmond, and he hopes to contribute to making it the best it possibly can be!
Amany Aamir is a rising senior at Redmond High School where she partakes in Leadership and several different clubs. In the fall, she will serve as the Public Relations Officer for UNICEF Club, and the ASB Representative for Photography Club. She will also be serving as the Secretary for the Associated Student Body this upcoming school year. Amany hopes to pursue law in her future, and is hoping that he work with the Human Services Commission for the City of Redmond will give her the insight she needs. This is Amany’s first year working with TEDxYouth @ Redmond, but she is thrilled to be working on this committee with such amazing people!
Patrick Mao is a rising senior at Tesla STEM High School in Redmond, WA. At school, Patrick strives not only to maintain his grades but also to connect with his peers through the various clubs and organizations his school offers. As the ASB Clubs Coordinator, he is in charge of maintaining an updated list of all clubs, staying connected to all club presidents, and providing information on budgets as well as school events. Furthermore, he participated in a total of 20 clubs last year and held leadership positions in National Art Honor Society and American Red Cross – Student Health Leaders. Outside of school Patrick devotes his time equally to violin and soccer, having been part of the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra and competing in the Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association Recreational Leagues, both for over 6 years. Additionally, he is involved in his community as the current Youth Chair of the Redmond Youth Partnership Advisory Committee, curating and lending a hand at events such as homeless feeds and summer movies. He has been to each TEDxYouth@Redmond conference since 2012 and he is excited to contribute this year on the planning committee!
Sagarika Samavedi, Speaker Curation
Sagarika Samavedi is a sophomore at Interlake High School and is passionate about biology and art. She is part of many clubs in her school including Science club, Science Olympiad, HOSA, and FPS. This year as President of HOSA in her school, she and her friends competed at the HOSA International Leadership Conference and she was recognized for her community service with the Barbara James Service Award. She loves to dance and has been learning the classical dance form Kathak for the past 6 years. In her free time, she creates oil paintings with themes inspired by nature. This is Sagarika’s first year with TEDxRedmond, and she is very excited to be a part of the team!
Sierra Baker will be a senior at Redmond High School in the upcoming school year. As a captain of her school’s cross country team, she regularly trains with her fellow runners to prepare for meets and competitions. However, during the summer she works as a Washington Business Week ambassador and intern to actively promote the program and volunteer. This is her first year with TEDXYouth, and she is both ecstatic for the opportunity and looking forward to contributing to the program.
