At TEDxYouth@Redmond, we’re privileged to have a dedicated committee of local high school students. We’re also very lucky to have a resource of encouraging parents and mentors, who drive us to meetings, offer up their insight, and allow us to do what we love.

Karan is a Junior at Nikola Tesla STEM High School in Redmond. He enjoys pushing himself both academically and athletically. He swims competitively and juggles a handful of other extracurricular activities. This past June he was a competitor at the national Future Business Leaders of America competition in Marketing. He is interested in studying and working in an engineering related field beyond high school. His desire to excel permeates the work he does as President of the TEDxYouth@Redmond committee and he is looking forward to the execution of this year’s event.
Mimansa Dogra is a senior at Interlake High School and is passionate about debate, genetic research, and fanfiction. She is an avid member of her school’s debate team, being a finalist at state and national tournaments, and also plays softball for her school team. In her free time, you can find her tutoring students in everything from algebra to Indian Classical music, listening to Santana, or desperately trying to plug through /The Count of Monte Cristo/ in under a day.
Harika, a Senior at International school and an active student in the community, has two black belts in tae kwon do and is the president of her schools robotics club and national art honor society. In addition, she enjoys playing the piano and reading. She is very excited and motivated to help make another amazing TEDxYouth@Redmond event.
At seventeen years old, Sophia is an upcoming senior at Tesla STEM High School with an insatiable curiosity and desire to learn. She is interested in practically anything you throw at her, from poetry to molecular biology. She and her team won third place in the Environmental Engineering category at the International Science and Engineering Fair for designing and building a carbon dioxide refrigerator, and she also received a first place award in the Lexus Eco Challenge for developing an educational campaign about aquifer health. While Sophia is interested in STEM subjects, she also has a passion for the humanities – she is part of her school’s Ethics Bowl team, won first place in the state for her National History Day documentary, and has played piano for almost 12 years. She is very excited to be the Head of Speakers for this year’s conference, and hopes that you enjoy the event as much as she does.
Sonia Murthy, Head of Public Relations
Sonia Murthy is a seventeen year old at the Nikola Tesla STEM High School with a passion for everything from STEM to humanities to leadership. An Intel International Science and Engineering Fair award winner and Lexus Eco Challenge national finalist, Sonia also takes pride in her roles as ASB President, FBLA President, and HOSA Founder/President, as well as in her involvement with her local Hindi school’s Youth Board. When she’s not doing Taekwondo and Hapkido, or playing varsity singles Badminton, her remaining free time is spent painting, drawing, and writing. Sonia is very excited to another year on the TEDxYouth@Redmond team and looks forward to creating another successful event!
At 15 years old, Isaac is a sophomore at STEM and he has an intense interest in the field of science and technology and learning about the world around him. He learns things wherever he can, from youtube to magazines to rousing discussions with other people. Isaac enjoys filling his time learning new skills, sailing and practicing photography too.
At fifteen years old, Lucy Jiang is a sophomore at Redmond High School. As the president of Chinese Club and the secretary for Speech and Debate and Math Club, Lucy enjoys being involved in the community and making changes. She and her friends traveled to Washington D.C. for the 2014 National History Day competition, after placing first in the state for their group performance. She is also a Level 1 Certified Skate Instructor and a summer camp counselor for Skate Journeys Skate School.
Serina Nguyen is a fourteen year old freshman from Mercer Island. She enjoys tae-kwon-do, soccer, and is on Mercer Island High School’s Drill Team. Serina has won numerous awards through her volunteer work, including the President’s Volunteer Service Award. She is also a dedicated Girl Scout and has completed many self-organized Girl Scout service projects. She is very excited to be a part of the TEDxRedmond planning committee!
Gayatri, a sophomore at Interlake High School in Bellevue, is an avid Bharatanatyam dancer and is passionate about being involved in her Indian roots as well as sharing them with the people around her. For close to ten years, she has danced in various professional productions for different dance companies in the Eastside and Bay Area as well as her own solo debut in 2012. This is Gayatri’s first year at TEDx and is honored to work with such accomplished people and speakers on the committee.
Lisa Marie Dias
Lisa Marie Dias is a sophomore at Redmond High School with a strong passion for reading and writing. She loves writing short stories and poems during her free time. She has contributed to several newspapers and magazines and continues to do so today. Lisa Marie is part many clubs at her school, one of which being the Redmond Track and Field team. Along with this, she is part of the Redmond High School orchestra and is looking forward to playing at Carnegie Hall next year. Last year, her robotics team was semi-finalists in state and traveled to Anaheim, California for the VEX World Championship 2014. Just a few years ago, Lisa Marie and her friends scored an Honorable Mention for Toshiba Exploravision and has been interested in science and technology ever since. Last summer, she had the opportunity to intern at Microsoft since she is a board member of a non-profit organization reaching out for youth and inspiring them to code. Lisa Marie is extremely passionate about debate and is part of her school’s Speech and Debate Club. This is her fifth year being part of the committee and is so excited for planning TEDxRedmond 2015!
